This is good news for women who go into early menopause and can’t have a baby due to it. Researchers for the first time report that they have successfully transplanted a full ovary from one woman to another, in which it later resulted in a live birth. In this case, the volunteer was her twin sister who gave her ovaries to help her sister who went into early menopause at age 15. The twin sister gave birth at age 38 and she has fully restored fertility.
According to the researchers who reported their findings in the New England Journal of Medicine, this “method may offer a way to preserve fertility for cancer patients or for women who want to wait until they are older to start families.”
