Health providers would agree that aromatherapy is an excellent complementary therapy for migraine. It does not eliminate migraine headaches totally, but reduces the frequency and severity of the attack. Aromatherapy is used alongside traditional therapy and medication.

Migraine is due to the excessive dilatation or contraction of your brain’s blood vessels. It is often triggered by various allergens, stress, lack (more…)

Statistics have shown that thought and sleep patterns in prenatal development can be influenced by music. Music for babies can play an important part in enhancing the quality of babies and children’s lives post birth. Babies and fetuses are exceptionally receptive to environmental sounds, hence the main goal of prenatal music is to set the stage for a child’s early learning and emotional well being. So, what’s better than having one opinion piece published in a week?

USA Today op-ed: Will restricting gifts to doctors reduce pharmaceutical influence?

Well, how about two.

My latest USA Today op-ed was published this morning: Pads, pens, prescriptions.

I talk about the “voluntary ban” that the pharmaceutical industry has instituted on itself, preventing doctors from receiving any type of gifts from drug representatives.

Will restricting gifts to doctors remove the (more…)

And of course, there are also the physical effects of anger, including elevated blood pressure and heart rate. But a new study reported by Reuters suggests that blowing your top is actually more dangerous than previously suspected.

The (more…)

E-Health Records Benefits For Doctors

Part of the newly passed economic stimulus package, as much as roughly $21 billion is devoted to e-health records. The goal of modernizing our health care system by 2014, once a long shot goal, may be attainable with the new health care funding.

For doctors who are still waiting on the side lines, you may want to jump in now and cash in on the potential benefits. For one, doctors would qualify (more…)

Reading an article about eliminating HIV/AIDs via somewhat controversial means of basically corralling everyone, testing them for HIV and those that are positive placed on antiretroviral-drug therapy, hence limiting the spread till those with HIV eventually die off, thereby eliminating the disease. My question is, with the stigma of living with HIV still lingering, albeit more in developing countries where the epidemic (more…)

When undergoing a procedure in the hospital, the last thing most patients suspect would be sustaining burns from medical equipment or carelessness of the medical staff.

Thankfully, such instances are rare, but they do occur. As the WSJ reports, the oxygen-rich environment of an operating room can increase the risk of flames, from say, a stray spark of an electrocautery device.

Furthermore, medication patches, like nicotine or (more…)
