Do doctors who use physician-only social networking sites expose themselves to malpractice risk?

One of the newer trends is doctors using social networking sites like Sermo and iMedExchange.

Likened to a “virtual doctor’s lounge,” physicians can ask questions and speak freely knowing their posts will not be seen by, or released to, the public.

Often times, questions about patient management are asked, and it’s nice to have a quick response to queries by a variety of specialists.

Maybe according to a new study by the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, antioxidants, vitamin C, and/or vitamin E supplements may not measurably reduce ones risk of cancer, but taking the supplements in the case we cannot consume them through our foods, has other significant benefits. Extra Sleep and Reduced Heart Risk

When news came out in the Dec. 24 issue of The Journal of the American Medical Association regarding how an extra hour of sleep can help control coronary artery calcification, a major risk factor for heart disease, I wondered how effective their research was. Eating More Nuts Could Reduce Risk of Heart Disease

I don’t know about you, but I have always enjoyed a handful of nuts here and there, especially when I need something to tide me over to the next meal. In a study, appearing Monday in the Archives of Internal Medicine, Spanish researchers report that adding nuts performed better than boosting the olive oil in a typical Mediterranean diet. Exercise is has many benefits, and colon cancer is just one of the chronic diseases that exercise seems to have a strong inverse relationship with. Epidemiological evidence has shown that regular exercise can reduce colon cancer risk by up to 30-40% in both men and women. Research Confirms Vioxx Increases Risk of Heart Attack

New research from a long-term study of individuals taking the arthritis drug known as Vioxx offers confirmation that the drug increases the risk of stroke or heart attack by 50%. Reported on Reuters.com, the research suggests that other arthritis drugs of the same class (Cox-2 Inhibitors) may pose the same risks of heart attack and stroke.
